Dissecting Austria

Starting from the west and crossing the Swiss border just south of Lake Konstanz you enter the Bregenzerwald region, an area of pristine beauty and many wine & cheese producers. Ensure you leave the area through the stunning Arlberg pass bringing you to Tyrol.  Here there are many Alpine roads that incorporate stunning vistas with a leisurely drive. We have done the Großglockner and Zillertal. If you’re going to explore Innsbruck allow 1 day.

Heading east takes you through the Salzkammergut an alpine area of scenic lakes and quaint villages before descending to the Wachau valley that follows the Danube to Vienna.  We allowed 2 days in Salzburg and a week in Vienna.
